ARE YOU SAIVED ?
Some believers preach the assurance of salvation. Their teaching is based on the Letter of Saint Paul to Romans:” If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom 10:9). The problem is that Saint Paul doesn’t use the word ‘ONLY’. He doesn’t say: ‘If we ONLY believe in our hearts and proclaim through our mouth that Jesus is our personal Lord and Savior we will be saved’.
We must believe in our hearts that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, we must proclaim Him through our mouth, there is no doubt about it, but simply calling HIM our Lord and Savior is not enough to be saved. It is not enough to obtain eternal life. A believer has to live according to the Gospel, he has to follow God's will (Mt 7:21-23). Saint Paul says: “Don’t pronounce judgment before the Lord comes (1Kor 4:4-5 ). Everybody after his death will stand before God’s court to be judged from the deeds they had committed (2Kor 5:10).
Saint Paul says: …work out your salvation in fear and trembling (Phil 2:12). The road which leads heaven is narrow (Mt 7:13-14).
“If we go sinning willfully, when once the full knowledge of the truth has been granted to us, we have no further sacrifice for sins to look forward to; nothing but a terrible expectation of judgment” (Heb 10:26-27).
A person can loose his faith that is why the Bible warns us: The ones who endure till the end will obtain eternal life (Mt 24:13).
So, to say that Paul in his Letter to the Romans (Rom 10:9) teaches the instant assurance of salvation, which can be obtained simply by believing in Christ to be our personal Lord and Savior, is false. To preach such statement is, to proclaim another Gospel, which is contrary to the Gospel preached by Jesus Christ (Gal 1:7-9)
